Amancio was born in 1936 in León. When he was fourteen years old he was introduced to the fashion world and after working in a couple companies as the deliveryman, he started to think and create the project that has nowadays become one of the most famous companies of affordable clothing in Spain and all over the world, Inditex.
In 1975, he opened the first Zara shop at La Coruña, in Galicia. There, he sold clothing for women, men and kids. One year later he expanded and opened other Zara shops all around Spain.
In 1985, the Inditex group expanded to Portugal and the first shop was opened in 1988 in Oporto, then expanding to other countries such as Arabia Saudí or Turkey. Amancio is nowadays one of the richest
people in the world with a fortune of around 62,7k million dollars in 2019.

A lot of people ask themselves how he got to the point where he is now, when he actually came from a modest family. Some things that have helped him are: he does not really appear in the media, he remained anonymous (did't show his physical appearance) for a long time and he usually never talks about his way of working.
Once, some years ago some TV channel asked him to film some of the shops and production plants where the products were made. It turned out he has for a long time been exploiting his "workers" and making his clothes in third world countries which was harshly criticized by the public and the media. However people keep buying his clothes and making him, and now his daughter which is the new boss, one of the most rich people in the world.
